"I would not be where I am now without the Basenberg Scholarship. At RCHS I had dreams of becoming an animator, and I found myself applying to the Azusa Pacific University Animation program. It didn’t seem likely that going to a private school would be in the cards for me. I wrote my Basenberg Scholarship application essay on my love and drive for animation, and because of that I am now an animation major at APU! Since attending my university I have worked on four animated films and have completely animated my own short film. I was able to purchase my own industry-standard equipment where I can work from home. I have also had the opportunity to attend many Hollywood Industry events like the Annie Awards for animation. I got my first job at APU’s print shop, Azusa Print + Design, because of the mentoring that I received from the RCHS Graphics and Production Program. God had bigger plans for me, since I was able to then purchase machines and equipment from that job to start my own print business, Peeling Good. Even after graduation I still receive support from the staff at RCHS, because I was then referred by the CTE Graphics and Production teacher, Mrs. Arredondo, to my current job at PistonBones Printing. The Basenberg Scholarship has given me opportunities I wouldn’t have dreamed of at the time of applying, but to this day I feel the support from the scholarship and the wonderful RCHS faculty and staff. I am forever grateful for that."
